The Tchibo Social and Environmental Monitoring Programme Supplier Manual for Non Food Business Partners 3.00e 1. Why Social and Environmental Standards in the Non Food Supply Chain? Consumers today not only demand products which meet their price and quality expectations. Having been sensitized by public campaigns, television reports and newspaper articles on labour conditions and environmental pollution in production markets, they expect their products to be produced under socially and environmentally responsible conditions. In their opinion, retailers and vendors are jointly responsible for ensuring this. Tchibo takes this responsibility very seriously. We are striving towards healthy and decent working conditions and environmentally friendly production of our articles and support our vendors in continually improving production conditions. This manual is intended for our vendors. It gives you comprehensive and practical information on the complex subject of social and environmental standards as a whole as well as the Tchibo Social and Environmental Monitoring Programme in particular. Please note, that that the manual does not make any claim to be complete. As new information reaches us, we continually update it. 2. The Tchibo Social and Environmental Code of Conduct The Tchibo Social and Environmental Code of Conduct (SCoC) (see appendix 7.1) and also the Code of Conduct are the basis of our Social and Environmental Programme. It outlines the requirements which we expect our vendors to fulfil. These requirements are based on the Conventions of the International Labour Organisation (ILO) as well as the respective local labour and environmental laws and social policy. The SCoC gives clear guidelines on issues such as the prohibition of child labour, maximum permissible working hours, compensation, the freedom of association and collective bargaining as well as environmental protection. The SCoC is available in several languages, amongst others German, English, and Mandarin. They can be downloaded from the internet under www.tchibo.com/scoc. 2.1. Contractual Obligation The Social and Environmental Code of Conduct forms the contractual basis of any business relationship with our vendors. Signing of our contract automatically means signing up and agreeing to comply with our Social and Environmental Code of Conduct. Should our audits reveal serious violations of our code, Tchibo retains the right to withdraw from the contract without granting any days of grace and reject the service, claiming damages instead of the service. 2.2. Communication with Workers The Tchibo SCoC must be visibly posted in the production area in the local language. The employees have to be notified accordingly, in order to ensure that they are aware of their rights. 2.3. Grievance Procedure Employees are entitled to bring any violation of the SCoC and/or local laws to the attention of Tchibo or independent third parties. Employees and third parties may contact Tchibo at any time by using the following address: Tchibo GmbH Corporate Responsibility überseering 18, D- 22297 Hamburg/ Germany Email: [email protected]
